Our Story
About PFLAG Peoria
Since our first meeting on December 1st, 2018, PFLAG Peoria has been serving the Central IL area. Our mission is to make Peoria and the surrounding communities a safer and more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. We offer education and support, and we advocate for equal rights both locally and nationally. We'd love to be a part of your journey!
What We Do
PFLAG Peoria offers a safe and affirming space where you can:
Find Support: We offer monthly, in person meetings where members of the LGBTQ+ community, friends, and allies can connect, share experiences, and ask questions. We often have guest speakers and activities.
Learn: We have dozens of free resources available on a variety of topics that affect us personally, locally, and nationally. If you’re just starting your journey or already underway, get your information from a trusted source.
Advocate: Get involved, and show your support for your community! We participate in several local events, partner with ally organizations, host fun activities, and more! Volunteer with us and make a difference!
Making a Difference
PFLAG Peoria is dedicated to being a voice for equality, both in Central Illinois and nationally. In addition to participating in local events, we also have a presence at important public gatherings, such as Pride Month proclamations at the Courthouse, Advocacy Day at the State Capitol, and the People's March on Peoria, just to name a few.
We also keep the community aware of local and nationwide policy changes that affect LGBTQ+ individuals and guide them to where they can find their rights. We link valuable resources offered by ally organizations to ensure that we can reach as many people as possible and aid them on their journey.
In short, we are here to Make a Difference. Every parent that learns how to support their child, every ally who speaks up, every student who feels safer in school - all of these moments add up to real change.
Q Collective
In addition to our Monthly Meetup for parents and allies, PFLAG Peoria also hosts a monthly gathering for area LGBTQ+ youth, ages 11-18. The Q Collective is a place for kids to meet other kids, participate in activities, and just hang out in a safe and welcoming environment. Contact us for more details!
